Care UK is one of the largest providers of residential care for older people.
We operate more than 110 care homes and day clubs across the UK. Our team of 8,000 people delivers care to 7,000 people every day.
Our care homes provide an impressive range of care services to older people, ranging from short stay respite care to nursing care, end of life care, plus specialist care and support for people living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.
Investing in new homes
We’re building care homes fit for the twenty-first century, with a new, state-of-the-art care home opening every couple of months. What makes these homes different? Each of our new care homes provides the widest range of care, from nursing and residential, to respite and dementia care. The homes are designed with the emphasis on luxury and on providing reassuring and calming settings for people with dementia. There are also elements designed to help residents to continue to enjoy a great lifestyle: each home has its own cinema, coffee shop and hair salon.
In addition to the sector's most ambitious development programme, our expertise helped Suffolk County Council to fulfull its vision for older people's care through a unique and award-winning partnership. Over a three year period we invested £60 million in 10 new care homes and day clubs, replacing existing homes which dated mainly from the 1960s and bringing much needed additional specialist care to the region.
At the heart of our care philosophy is the principle of activity based care. This means that we support residents to continue to be as active and independent as possible. Our clinical and care teams learn all they can about each new resident, planning care, daily activities and even menus around their preferences so that each day is as special and enjoyable as possible.
Our care homes are warm and safe places where residents are free to personalise their rooms, to continue visiting friends and clubs in the community and even to develop a role for themselves in the home whether they fancy watering the plants, helping with gardening or laying the table for dinner.
Homes with heart
Many of our homes provide a full range of care services enabling residents to stay in the same home with the same trusted carers even as their needs change. This can be as important to residents’ families as the residents themselves, especially as their loved ones’ needs become more demanding and all the family needs some extra emotional and practical support.
We also feel strongly that, as our care homes are our residents’ actual homes, there shouldn’t be set visiting hours. In Care UK homes family and friends can visit their loved ones at any time of the day or night and stay for as long as they like.
We pride ourselves on providing sensitive and understanding care for older people who are living with dementia. Our in-house dementia experts have developed award-winning experiential training that enables our care teams to understand first-hand what it may be like to live with this extremely challenging disease.
Many of our homes provide palliative and end of life care so the majority of these homes either have, or are working towards, accreditation in the National Gold Standard in End of Life Care. This gives residents and their families the reassurance that teams are delivering the highest quality, most reliable and most consistent care – the gold standard of care – at this crucial time.
