The World Cup may be over but its legacy and excitement can still live on.
Perhaps you’ve played football before and all the recent enthusiasm has got you wanting to dust off your old kit and get playing again; or it’s never interested you before but now the joy of the beautiful game has ignited a spark in you, and you’re interested in giving it a try.
Football is a demanding game but has lots of health benefits. It can:
- increase a participant’s speed, strength and stamina,
- improve heart health and blood pressure,
- build muscle mass and strengthen bones,
- reduce body fat,
- improve concentration and coordination,
- promote teamwork and social skills, and
- boost confidence.
However, the problem is that people often give up sport or decide not to take it up in the first place because they’re too busy, or don’t have the time to commit to a team or league.
That’s where drop in sessions, such as Just Play!, come in.
Just Play! lets those who want to take part in a kick about once in a while, but can’t commit to joining a team, turn up and have a go on a pitch in their area. It allows people who love playing football to have the chance to join in when they can or when they feel like it.
The Just Play! events, run by Level 1 football coaches, are organised for once a week, 32 weeks of the year, in 400 centres, , run by a Level 1 football coach. The scheme is for anyone and everyone of all abilities – anybody who fancies a game, from the age of 16+.
Regular exercise can help to prevent a number of illnesses and conditions, such as, cardiovascular disease, depression and anxiety, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, diabetes, obesity and cancer.
