The people of Edinburgh recently celebrated the grand launch of the city’s newest care home, with the help of special guests.
Murrayside was opened by the Rewarding Resident competition winner, Joanna Lamb, as well as Murrayside’s first resident, Peggy Mayo, and the local community enjoyed a host of entertainment as part of its opening celebrations.
The Rewarding Resident competition was launched by Murrayside earlier this year, and rewards local people or organisations who go above and beyond for their community, friends or family, and have a positive impact on the local area.
Having raised over £25,000 for charity, Joanna was awarded first prize and presented with £1,000. The judges were impressed with her involvement in various organisations, from being an ambassador for the Teenage Cancer Trust to taking part in this year’s Kiltwalk for ‘It’s Good 2 Give’.
Sheila Thompson, also known in the community as ‘Granny Thompson’, received the second prize for her unwavering support for local school events as well as pupils, families, or team members.
Last but not least, John Barrett scooped the third prize for his lifelong involvement in the community, with his efforts currently focused on supporting the reconstruction of the Corstorphine Community Centre.
There were plenty of fun activities for all the family, from festive crafting to mini beauty treatments, including manicures and hand massages.
Visitors enjoyed live entertainment on arrival from the George Heriot’s School pipe band, who got everyone in the party spirit.
Those who attended the event also had the chance to meet the friendly team at Murrayside and take a tour of the new care home, as well as enjoy a selection of tasty treats.
Murrayside’s Rewarding Resident competition winner, Joanna Lamb, said: “It was great to open such a fabulous care home, which provides fantastic support for both my papa, who is a resident, and my nana, as his wife and carer. It was an honour and lovely to hear all the great things Murrayside and Care UK have to offer”
Murrayside home manager, Michelle Reid, added: “We were delighted to welcome Joanna Lamb to officially open the home and mark this important milestone. She is a truly inspirational figure, and we were blown away by the tremendous amount of work she has done over the past couple of years.
“The residents had a fantastic time celebrating, and enjoyed preparing for the event by helping to decorate the home and getting pampered. We would also like to thank the local community, who helped to make this such a special day. After such a successful event, we are already looking forward to our next celebration!”
